ABOUT THE GRANDPAS AUTOMATIC CHICKEN FEEDER

Animals
The feeder can be used by chickens, bantams, and pheasants.

Using with Lighter Birds
For very light birds or bantams which are too light for the feeder, it is very easy to adjust the feeder by putting a small weight on the tread plate. Do not use with baby chickens as they may get caught when bigger birds step off.

How many chickens can feed at once?
A large feeder can have 4-5 chickens eating together at one time. Because of its larger capacity, we recommend the large feeder for flocks of a dozen or more birds.

A standard feeder can have 3 – 4 chickens eating together at one time, but can be easily be used to feed a flock. We recommend the standard feeder for flocks up to a dozen chickens but if you don’t mind filling it more often then it will support more.

Assembly
The product comes almost fully assembled, just fasten the treadplate on and you’re ready to go.
The whole product fits easily into your car for transport.

Feed Size
A large feeder can hold 18kg/40lb feed: generally will feed 12 hens for 10 days.

A standard feeder holds 9kg/20lbs feed: generally will feed 6 hens for 10 days.

Training birds
The feeders come with 2 training bolts to limit movement and instructions for their use: 2 settings with one week on each setting.

Feed Types
The Feeders are suitable for all dry feeds.

It does what it says on the box

Train it as per the instructions and the chickens adapt quickly

Trail Cam shows rats which that were a big problem can no longer access the chicken feed.

Best feeder on the market

There’s not a chicken feeder that compares to this one, well designed, premium product.

Worth the investment

Easy to put together. Feels sturdy and well made. Followed the training instructions - I am in week two and already my three hens seem to have mastered it. Whenever I'm in the run, I rattle it about a little bit so that they get used to the noise and they are definitely getting use to it and are less nervous. Yes, it might seem pricey but it is built to last and a great rodent deterrent. I absolutely would recommend. I think it's worth the investment - buy once, cry once.

Need to redesign to prevent spillage

I was happy with the quality of the feeder and would be confident that vermin couldn't get to the food except one or some of my hens managed to flick the pellets out of the sides so they collected on top of the treadle arms and spilt underneath. I found that too risky to continue using it as it was a big attraction to vermin.
In fact when I picked it up to remove it, there were loads of mouse droppings underneath.
I'm returning the feeder for a refund and the customer service in the UK was excellent.

Great product but not 100%

Other than by waiting for chickens to feed you can't tell how full the feeder is without lifting the lid. I'd like it if the antiflick grill linked to an indicator on the outside so you could tell when food was getting low. It would be good to have an adjustable weight system. In training our chickens to use this we've also trained the local pigeons at the same time. I'll add weights until they can't open it.
